Over the past few months, I decided to revisit two of my early stories that I wrote a long time ago.
It was a delightful experience to relive the memories set in the Caribbean, or as I like to call them, the stories that shine in creole. These stories have a universal appeal, suitable for readers of all ages. They have the power to ignite the imagination of our childhood selves while leaving us with valuable life lessons. They always reflect something about our surroundings. I vividly remember what my mother and aunts used to say about these stories I was obliged to listen to every night around the dinner table: “…sé ba timoun é granmoun, sé pou tann é konprann” – which translates to “stories are meant for children and adults alike. We should all listen and learn from them.”
Alright, enough of my digressions. Today, I am excited to announce that I have just completed the cover design for one of these two stories. The book title is “On Panga Ba Éyadua“. Written in the vibrant Creole language, it portrays the misfortunes of a young boy unwittingly bearing the brunt of a spell on his way to visit his grandmother. His grandmother, deeply rooted in her culture, will strive to protect her grandson Eyadua from this curse.
