Children are the future of society, and we need to protect their beautiful minds from the horrors of this period.
The world is experiencing perhaps one of its toughest times in the millennium. And one thing we can be sure of is that kids have not been oblivious to the recent events. The expressions and details of newscasters on the TVs, the worried faces of their parents/wards, and other pointers can get “too much” for them. Now more than ever, our kids need protecting, and what better to turn to than good books?
Not just any books, but books adapted for children will do a whole lot of good. Here are reasons why you should get a children’s book for your kid today;
It’s a great escape for children
I remember how my little nieces always badgered me to read to them children books (tales) like the adventures of Snow white and the 7 dwarfs, Cinderella and all those fun fairytales. They’d begin to mimic a guarded princess in a castle, and would even fancy having a sweet pet dog and all that. Those books made them feel secure, and for a long time kept their little mind engaged. This is an example of what children books do to kids.
It improves Children Literacy and knowledge
This pandemic resulted in the shutting of schools and learning institutions. While this is a necessary step, it is a great deal to the kids. Children’s literacy should always be a top priority, but seeing that we can’t manage that now, we must try to engage them with books.
Children’s books have simple, “interesting” words that can make learning easier for them.
Learning is fun when it is for them.
Big books have big words; Children’s books have fun words. There is no better way to learn than with lots of fun. Children’s books can explain the most complex “physics lectures” to simple illustrations and words that children grasp. It makes it a win-win for both children’s education and science/art.
Fosters closer relationships
Few things draw a child closer to you than learning periods. While reading children’s books to kids, you are filling their minds with more questions and dreams. This way, they turn to you with more questions, more honesty, and courage.
Also, this period of a pandemic should be one for great bonding between children and their parents/caregivers. And there are little better ways to do it than read to them.
Kids can fight this period with children book
A big problem for parents and caregivers this period is correcting false information that children pick up.
I overheard a kid telling another: “the virus can be transmitted over the phone.” Well, pretty sure their parents might find it hard correcting these notions. It is a reason why I recommend children’s books during this period; lots of subtle, simple information there for kids.
Wrapping Up
At a time when millions of children are now out of school, more than ever, children need help and light into their world. They also need those “friends” that you can only find in a kid’s book.
